Divorce: By Colorado law is handled as a dissolution of marriage.

Legal Separation: Permits spouses to remain technically married if they choose, whether for health insurance benefits, religious objections, or other reasons. However, it spells out other legal terms of the separation, including financial arrangements and child custody.

Annulment: Declares a marriage invalid. This is a relatively simple way to end a short marriage. However, Colorado’s no-fault divorce law makes its use relatively uncommon.

Many divorces are won and lost with the filing of these disclosures, including the values a spouse places on various assets, like the marital home and retirement accounts.

Other tools an attorney may use in a divorce can include interrogatories, inspection, physical and mental examination, request for production of documents and request for admissions.  Additional proceedings include the initial status conference, temporary orders hearing, permanent orders hearing, settlement meetings, mediation and pretrial meetings.
